The festival 'Umaichi'

Umaichi is the festival which dedicates to hor

ses who had worked to develop rice field in old time.

Umaichi festival is successor of the festival ‘Umakkoichi' , which was the biggest three horse festivals of northeastern territory.

The festival of Umaichi started in 1980. In the festival, big lantern floats which models after horse moves on street of downtown. In the last day of festival, it is burned in order to honor the memory of horse who had worked to develop new rice field.
